The Great Wall at Badaling -
The Great Wall is a symbol of Chinese civilization. Located at Yanqing County and among the undulating high mountains, the Great Wall at Badaling is among the best preserved stretches of the wall, hence, it is the most representative part and was promoted as a key national cultural relic. It is China's military stronghold. Badaling means "giving access to every direction", the name itself suggests its strategic importance.
Tian'anmen Square -
Located in the heart of Beijing, it is the largest one of its kind in the world. In the morning, the grand flag-raising ceremony is held, and the nightfall, the flag lowering ceremony is conducted. The flag-raising ceremony has become the most attractive and sacred ceremony in Tian'anmen Square. This immense courtyard is also the site of various historical events. It is surrounded by significant edifices such as the Chinese Revolution History Museum, the Mao Mausoleum, the Great Hall of the People, and the Heavenly Peace Gate.
Forbidden City -
Also called as the Palace Museum, it is the largest and the best preserved Imperial Palace in the world. Forbidden City houses numerous rare treasures; it's splendid painted decoration, royal architectural wonder, the grand and deluxe halls will certainly satisfy one's curiosity. In 1987, it was listed by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage Site.
Temple of Heaven -
Located in the southeast of Beijing City proper, the Temple of Heaven was first constructed in 1420. The temple was built specifically as a place where the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties worshipped heaven and prayed for good harvests. Main buildings in the temple take blue as the basic color, symbolizing the color of heaven. In 1998, it was included in the Worl Cultural Heritage List by UNESCO.
Summer Palace -
It is the best-preserved and largest imperial garden in China adn a classical park in the world. It covers an area of 2.9 million square meters, of which three fourths are taken up by water. Its main features are Longevity Hill, Kunming Lake, and various buildings. In the time of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), it had become a luxurious royal garden providing riyal families with rest and entertainment. The Summer Palace also holds tens of thousands of precious cultural relics.
Behai Park -
In the center of Beijing City proper, this park is a former imperial garden with a history of over 1000 years. This park mainly consists of Beihai Lake and Jade Flowery Islet. The islet is the center of the prk, on which the White Pagoda stands. The Beihai park also preserves a large number of precious cultural relics and architecture.
Beijing Zoo -
Located north of Xizhimenwai Dajie, Beijing Zoo is the largest zoo in China with the longest history. Almost 7,000 precious animals and birds of over 900 species are on show.
Among them are giant pandas, golden monkeys, white-lipped deer, tigers from Northeast China and red crowned cranes. Also on show are rare animals from various continents such as zebras from Africa, musk-oxen and kangaroos from Australia, a nd argalies from Canada.
Hutong Tour -
Hutong is an ancient urban alley peculiar to Beijing. The main means of transportation for a hutong tour is the rickshaw. Hutong tour has not only promoted exchanges between Chinese and foreign tourists, but also enhanced the friendship among them.
The Ming Tombs -
The Ming Tombs lie at the foot of the Tianshou Mountains, were 13 of the 16 Ming Emperors were burried. The Changling and Dingling Mausoleums are open to the public.
In July 2003, the Ming Tombs was included in the World Cultural Heritage List by UNESCO.
Black Dragon Pond Scenic Zone -
This is sutuated in a valley, north of Lupiguan. Shicheng Township in Miyun County. This scenic zone mainly consists of hanging waterfalls, blue ponds, running streams, oddly-shaped rocks, and a pleasant climate. As a summer and a holiday resort, it is an ideal tourist attraction.
Fragrant Hills Park -
This is a large mountain and forest park with imperial characteristics, integrating scenic spots and historical sites. Famous scenes and spots in the park include Snowy West Mountain in the Sun, red leaves, Studio of Tranquil Heart, Bright Temple, Shuangqing Villa, and Temple of Azure Clouds, where visitors can find the Diamond Throne Pagoda and the hall that holds 500 arhat statues.From mid October to mid Nobember, the park is crowded with visitors, as it more delightful in autumn, when the leaves of nearly 100,000 smoke trees turn red.
Sleeping Buddha Temple -
this is so named because of an enormous statue of the sleeping Buddha in the temple. The Buddha looks serene and composed, expressing a state of complete
awakening and carefree. meticulously cast, the sleeping Buddha is a precious work of art.
China National Museum -
On the eastren side of Tian'anmen Square, Chian national Museum is established on the basis of Museum of the Chinese History - with over 9,000 pieces of precious relics from various historical periods, and Museum of the Chinese Revolution - which houses over 120,000 cultural relics in addition to more than 270 pieces works of art, such as oil paintings, traditional Chinese paintings, sketches and sculptures.
