10 Day China Discovery

Tour Code: OAX

Visits: Beijing - Xian - Shanghai

Detailed Itinerary

Day 01 :USA - Beijing

We start our vacation by boarding an international flight bound for Beijing, the bustling capital of modern day China. Spend the night on board as the flight crosses the international date line.

Day 02 :Arrive Beijing

Beijing will be the host city for the upcoming 2008 Summer Olympics and in the midst of much change in preparation for the throngs of international visitors who will surely come. With no sightseeing planned, what's left of the day is spent free at leisure.

Day 03 :Beijing(AB, L, DS)

Beijing is China's political center and home to over 13 million people. Today's fun-filled tour takes us around this wondrously historic city. Start off with the sprawling Tiananmen Square, the world's largest public square. Continue on to the Forbidden City, which in China's Imperial period was the official home of the emperor and his royal court. Later we also visit the emperor's SummerPalace, a place of respite from the hot Beijing summers. End the day by attending an amazing performance of Chinese Acrobatics.

Day 04 :Beijing(AB, L, DP)

Surely the highlight of any tour to China must be the glorious Great Wall. Meandering its way thousands of miles across Northern China, the Great Wall is rumored to be visible from the Moon! Spend ample time traversing the ancient steps of the Great Wall, descending later to visit the MingTombsMuseum. Return to the city to find that a sumptuous Peking Duck Banquet has been prepared for our dining pleasure.

Day 05 :Beijing(AB)

Two full days of sightseeing has earned us a day free at leisure. Spend time exploring the streets of Beijing on your own, do some shopping, catch up on some rest, or perhaps take an optional tour to the Hutongs of Old Town Beijing by rickshaw.

Day 06 :Beijing - Xian(AB, L, DH)

We finish up our Beijing tour by visiting the Temple of Heaven. Widely regarded as the noblest example of religious architecture in all of China, it was the site where emperors came to pray to the heavens for a bountiful harvest. Board a flight to Xian later in the day, driving by the massive City Wall and chancing a visit to the ancient BellTower on the way into town.

Day 07 :Xian(AB, L, DS)

Xian is home to the life-sized Terra Cotta Warriors of Qin Shi Huang. Made to protect China's first emperor even in death, the Terra Cotta Army was discovered by farmers in 1974 and attracts multitudes of visitors each year. After reviewing the fine troops, we head back into town to visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda. We are in for a treat this evening - after an Imperial Dumpling Banquet, we take in Xian's world famous Tang Dynasty Stage Show.

Day 08 :Xian - Shanghai(AB, L, DH)

Board a short flight to Shanghai, China's largest metropolis and most important center of international commerce. Shanghai's modern history dates back to the 1900's and is a perfect mix of East and West. A city tour takes us to Yu Garden, the bustling shopping district Nanjing Road and the famous waterfront Bund.

Day 09 :Shanghai(AB)

Our last full day in Shanghai is spent at leisure. Use the time to do some last minute souvenir shopping or to explore the city on your own. If we desire, an optional tour to Suzhou is available. Suzhou is known as the "Venice of the East" and is famous for producing some of China's finest quality silk products.

Day 10 :Shanghai - USA(AB)

Bid a fond farewell to China as we board our homebound international flight. Cross the international date line to arrive back at home.
