Day 1 • Depart San Francisco for Beijing
Fly transpacific aboard United Airlines, accompanied by our
professional Tour Director from arrival in Asia. |

Day 2 • Arrive Beijing
Upon arrival you will be met and transferred to the hotel.

Day 3 • Beijing |
|
This morning, visit the Temple of Heaven and see local morning
exercise. See the Imperial Vault of Heaven with its Echo Wall and
the Nine-Dragon Cypress, thought to be more than 500 years old. See
Tiananmen Square and the Imperial Palace in the Forbidden City.
Tonight you are invited to a delicious Peking Duck welcome dinner
party.

Day 4 • Beijing |
|
Experience a highlight of your trip today as you walk along the
ramparts of the ancient Great Wall. After lunch, visit a cloisonné
factory and observe the skilled artisans. Later, stroll along the
statue-lined Sacred Way to the Ming Tombs and Chang Ling
Exhibition Hall.

Day 5 • Beijing |
|
Full day at leisure in Beijing. Perhaps take an optional Hutong
tour with a pedicab ride through the narrow lanes of the ancient
Hutong district with its courtyard-style homes.

Day 6 • Beijing/Xi'an |
|
This morning fly to historic Xi'an. On arrival visit the
exquisitely constructed Wild Goose Pagoda before checking into your
hotel.

Day 7 • Xi'an |
|
See the extraordinary terra-cotta legion of warriors and Bronze
Chariot, buried with the emperor for over 2200 years. Enjoy the
Circle Vision Movie. Enjoy a dumpling lunch before your visit to
the Shaanxi Provincial Historical Museum. This evening, enjoy
dinner and a fabulous show at the Tang Dynasty Theatre.

Day 8 • Xi'an/Chongqing |
|
Morning at leisure in Xi'an before flying to Chongqing. On arrival,
tour the Stilwell Museum's World War II memorabilia, including
exhibits of the Flying Tigers, American pilots who volunteered to
aid the Chinese prior to Pearl Harbor. Time permitting, stop at the
City Hall where you may visit the local market. After dinner, board
your cruise ship to begin a memorable cruise downstream in outside
cabin accommodations with balcony.

Day 9 • Yangtze River Cruise: Shibaozhai* |
|
Today's shore excursion shows the magnificent 12-story wooden
pagoda known as the “Pearl of the Yangtze” in scenic Shibaozhai.

*Alternate shore excursion may visit Fengdu or Wanzhou.

Day 10 • Yangtze River Cruise: Qutang Gorge/Daning River Small
Gorges or Shennong Stream/Wu Gorge/Xiling Gorge |
|
Cruise through the first of the fabled Three Gorges: Qutang Gorge
hemmed by mossy cliffs. At Wushan, a cruiser excursion takes you up
the Daning River to view the splendid Small Gorges. Continue by
sampan to the picturesque mini-gorges of the Ma Du River with its
clear, swift running water, unusual rock formations, and monkeys
and goats along the banks. Alternatively, your excursion may be on
Shennong Stream with its famed small gorges. Sail on through Wu
Gorge, celebrated for its Twelve Peaks. Next sail through Xiling
Gorge, the most scenic of all the gorges. Finally, sail through the
Three Gorges ship lock.

Day 11 • Yangtze River Cruise: Xiling Gorge/San Dou Pong/Yichang to
Shanghai* |
|
This morning, stop at San Dou Ping for a shore excursion to see
construction at the massive Three Gorges Dam, the world's largest
hydroelectric project. Board the ship and pass through the lock at
Gezhou Dam. Cruise on to Yichang, where you disembark. Fly to
Shanghai and check in to your hotel.

|
Sightseeing highlights of Shanghai include: the Shanghai Museum,

the museum's permanent collection, shopping on Nanjing Road, a
carpet factory, the city's colonial past at the European-styled
Bund, and a charming performance at the Children's Palace. Tonight,
enjoy an astonishing performance of the renowned Shanghai acrobats.
