Day 1 • Depart San Francisco for Beijing

Upon arrival, you are met and escorted to your hotel.

Day 3 • Beijing |
|
Tour Tiananmen Square, then on to the Imperial Palace's Forbidden
City, including admission to living quarters and jewelry sections.
Then tour the exquisite Summer Palace with a boat ride on Lake
Kunming (weather permitting). Enjoy a Peking Duck dinner party this
evening.

Day 4 • Beijing |
|
Behold the astonishing Great Wall today. After lunch, visit a
cloisonné factory. Then walk along the Sacred Way to the Ming Tombs
and Chang Ling Exhibition Hall. After dinner, attend an exciting
show, “The Legend of Kung Fu.”

Day 5 • Beijing |
|
The day is free to explore. Perhaps join our optional Hutong tour:
a pedicab ride takes you through the Hutong district's ancient
narrow streets. Visit Gu Lou (Drum Tower) and enjoy the views of
the city below.

Day 6 • Beijing/Shanghai |
|
Today, fly to cosmopolitan Shanghai, China's center of commerce.
The rest of the afternoon is free to explore at your leisure. After
dinner this evening, attend an acrobatic show.

Day 7 • Shanghai |
|
Full day tour shows Nanjing or Huai Hai Road and the rich dynastic
collections at the Shanghai Museum. In the afternoon visit the Jade
Buddha Temple, a carpet factory, The Bund and see a charming
performance at the Children's Palace.

Day 8 • Shanghai/Yichang* |
|
Morning is free in Shanghai. Fly to Yichang. Then, board your
cruise ship and begin your cruise upstream.

Day 9 • Yangtze River Cruise: San Dou Ping/Xiling Gorge
|
|
Stop at San Dou Ping to see the Three Gorges Dam Project. Board the
ship and sail through the dramatic Three Gorges ship lock before
continuing through Xiling Gorge, longest of the famed Three Gorges.

Day 10 • Yangtze River Cruise: Wu Gorge/Daning River Small Gorges
or Shennong Stream/Qutang Gorge |
|
Early this morning, marvel at Wu Gorge's deep zigzagging valley. At
Wushan, take an excursion via cruiser up to see the Daning River's
splendid Small Gorges. Continue by sampan to the picturesque
mini-gorges of the Ma Du River with its clear, swift running water,
unusual rock formations, and monkeys and goats along the banks.
Depending on the water level of the Yangtze River, your excursion
may be on Shennong Stream with its equally spectacular small
gorges. Depart Wushan, passing through dramatic Qutang Gorge,
walled with steep mossy cliffs that crowd the sky.

Day 11 • Yangtze River Cruise: Shibaozhai* |
|
A
shore excursion at scenic Shibaozhai shows its 12-story wooden
pagoda. Over 400 years old, this magnificent pagoda is known as the
“Pearl of the Yangtze.”

|
Disembark in Chongqing. Visit the Stilwell Museum where you will
see an intriguing collection of World War II memorabilia of the
famed Flying Tigers. Fly to Xi'an. Check into your hotel.

|
An extraordinary day begins as you tour the life-sized terra-cotta
army, no two alike, buried with the emperor for over 2200 years;

fabulous Tang Dynasty dinner show.

|
Fly on to Guilin, heart of a magnificent landscape. Highlights are
