DAY-BY-DAY ITINERARY:

 

Day 1 • Depart San Francisco for Beijing
Fly transpacific aboard United Airlines.

Day 2 • Arrive Beijing
Upon arrival, you are met and escorted to your hotel.

Day 3 • Beijing

Tour Tiananmen Square, then on to the Imperial Palace's For­bid­den City, including admission to living quarters and jewelry sections. Then tour the exquisite Summer Palace with a boat ride on Lake Kunming (weather permitting). Enjoy a Peking Duck dinner party this evening.

Day 4 • Beijing

Behold the astonishing Great Wall today. After lunch, visit a cloisonné factory. Then walk along the Sacred Way to the Ming Tombs and Chang Ling Exhi­bition Hall. After dinner, attend an exciting show, “The Legend of Kung Fu.”

Day 5 • Beijing

The day is free to explore. Perhaps join our optional Hutong tour: a pedicab ride takes you through the Hutong district's ancient narrow streets. Visit Gu Lou (Drum Tower) and enjoy the views of the city below.

Day 6 • Beijing/Shanghai

Today, fly to cosmopolitan Shanghai, China's center of commerce. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore at your leisure. After dinner this evening, attend an acrobatic show.

Day 7 • Shanghai

Full day tour shows Nanjing or Huai Hai Road and the rich dynastic collections at the Shanghai Museum. In the afternoon visit the Jade Buddha Temple, a carpet factory, The Bund and see a charming performance at the Children's Palace.

Day 8 • Shanghai/Yichang*

Morning is free in Shanghai. Fly to Yichang. Then, board your cruise ship and begin your cruise upstream.

*If direct flight is not available, fly to Wuhan and travel by motor coach on to Yichang.

 

Day 9 • Yangtze River Cruise: San Dou Ping/Xiling Gorge

Stop at San Dou Ping to see the Three Gorges Dam Project. Board the ship and sail through the dramatic Three Gorges ship lock before continuing through Xiling Gorge, longest of the famed Three Gorges.

Day 10 • Yangtze River Cruise: Wu Gorge/Daning River Small Gorges or Shennong Stream/Qutang Gorge

Early this morning, marvel at Wu Gorge's deep zigzagging valley. At Wushan, take an excursion via cruiser up to see the Daning River's splendid Small Gorges. Continue by sampan to the picturesque mini-gorges of the Ma Du River with its clear, swift running water, unusual rock formations, and monkeys and goats along the banks. Depending on the water level of the Yangtze River, your excursion may be on Shennong Stream with its equally spectacular small gorges. Depart Wushan, passing through dramatic Qutang Gorge, walled with steep mossy cliffs that crowd the sky.

Day 11 • Yangtze River Cruise: Shibaozhai*

A shore excursion at scenic Shibaozhai shows its 12-story wooden pagoda. Over 400 years old, this magnificent pagoda is known as the “Pearl of the Yangtze.”

*Alternate shore excursion may visit Fengdu or Wazhou.

 

Day 12 • Yangtze River Cruise: Chongqing/ Xi'an

Disembark in Chongqing. Visit the Stilwell Museum where you will see an intriguing collection of World War II memor­abilia of the famed Flying Tigers. Fly to Xi'an. Check into your hotel.

Day 13 • Xi'an

An extraordinary day begins as you tour the life-sized terra-cotta army, no two alike, buried with the emperor for over 2200 years; Circle Vision Movie; Bronze Chariot, and the collections at the renowned Shaanxi Provincial Historical Museum. Tonight, enjoy a fabulous Tang Dynasty dinner show.

Day 14 • Xi'an/Guilin

Fly on to Guilin, heart of a magnificent landscape. Highlights are the Reed Flute Cave and Fu Bo Hill's dramatic rock formations.

Day 15 • Guilin

A cruise along the Li River reveals the haunting beauty of Guilin's mist-wrapped peaks surrounding the river en route to Yangshuo.

HONG KONG

 

Day 16 • Guilin/Guangzhou/Hong Kong

We fly to Guangzhou and enjoy a tour of Chen Clan Temple and Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. Transfer by train to Hong Kong.

Day 17 • Hong Kong

Our Hong Kong Island tour passes through Stanley Market, Repulse Bay included is a sampan tour of the floating community at Aberdeen and a ride up to Victoria Peak to obtain spectacular panoramic views of the city and its splendid harbor.

Day 18 • Hong Kong

Day at leisure to shop and explore on your own. Perhaps join one of our optional tours.

Day 19 • Depart Hong Kong for San Francisco.
