USA - Tokyo
Check in for your transpacific flight to Japan, the magnificent "Land of the Rising Sun." Our destination is Tokyo, its capital city.
Arrive at Tokyoís new Narita Airport. You are met and greeted and transferred via shuttle bus to settle in to your luxury accomodations. The rest of the day is free at leisure. As the powerhouse of creative energy and global influence, Tokyo amazes visitors with many spectacular offerings.
Discovery of Japan beings as you take a half-day city tour of Tokyo. Drive by the picturesque Imperial Palace, home to the emperor and his royal family (we arenít allowed inside the gates). Continue on to the Asakusa Kannon Temple, the oldest temple in Tokyo that was built to house the statue of the Goddess of Mercy. Take an elevator up to the observation deck atop Tokyo Tower where you are presented with a panoramic view of the sprawling metropolis. The tour ends in Ginza where you are given time to experience shopping at the most expensive real estate in all of Japan. A local Sukiyaki lunch is provided. The tour disbands after lunch. For those wishing to go back to the hotel, our tour guide will escort you back by subway.
A full day has been provided for you to explore Tokyo at your own pace. The advanced subway system affords easy access to the entire city, and Tokyo is a sprawling metropolis just begging to be explored.
Tokyo - Mt. Fuji - Hakone (B,L,DH)
Our most event-filled day begins as we journey by motorcoach to see Mt. Fuji. We stop at either Mt. Fuji 5th Station or Mt. Fuji Museum (depending weather conditions) to marvel at its spectacular cloud-shrouded peak rising proudly into the sky, at once a symbol of national pride. Continue on to Hakone where we take a cruise of Lake Ashi before settling in for the evening.
Hakone - Kyoto (B, L, DS)
Located within driving distance of Tokyo, Hakone is one of Japanís most popular weekend spa getaways. Experience firsthand the beautiful natural hotsprings that bless this area. Later we depart Hakone and board the "Shinkansen," or bullet-train, at Odawara Station. Kyoto was the capital of Japan until the Shogun Tokugawa moved it to "Edo," or Tokyo. An afternoon city tour includes visits to Kyomizu Temple, Kinkakuji Temple, and the Heian Shrine. In the evening, enjoy a Japanese dinner while enjoying a special cultural dance performed by "Maiko."
Kyoto is a city that mysteriously keeps the old culture of Japan alive. Spend the day exploring this town on our own.
Take the entire day off at leisure. Feel free to stroll the ancient streets of Kyoto, doing some last minute souvenir shopping.
