Upon arrival in Beijing, China’s capital, you will be escorted to check in to your Five-Star hotel.

DAY 3 ? Monday ? Beijing

After breakfast, begin your tour at vast Tiananmen Square. Then on to the Imperial Palace within the Forbidden City, including the Palace Museum’s collection of Imperial jewelry. Afternoon is at leisure. Tonight, attend a Beijing Duck welcome dinner party with a glass of wine at the hotel.

DAY 4 ? Tuesday ? Beijing

This morning visit the Temple of Heaven to see local morning exercise and tour the temple grounds. See the Imperial Vault of Heaven’s Echo Wall and Nine-Dragon Cypress, more than 500 years old. After lunch, tour Beijing’s old Hutong (“narrow lanes”) area. At the Drum Tower, see a traditional drum performance. Then take an old-fashioned pedicab to the picturesque Shichahai Lake area with its 700-year-old Yuan Dynasty arched bridges and courtyard-style homes known as Siheyuans. Tour one of the ancient homes and visit with a local family. Stop at a Hutong kindergarten (if school is open) and a vegetable market. After dinner, enjoy a remarkable show, “The Legend of Kung Fu.”

DAY 5 ? Wednesday ? Beijing

Today, a highlight of your trip to China–walk the ramparts of the historic Great Wall, one of the most amazing feats of mankind. Then stroll along the Sacred Way, lined with statues, to the Ming Tombs and Chang Ling Exhibition Hall. After lunch, visit a cloisonné factory.

DAY 6 ? Thursday ? Beijing/Xi’an

Fly to historic Xi’an and will be escorted to check in to your hotel. This evening, a dinner show at the Tang Dynasty Theatre.

DAY 7 ? Friday ? Xi’an

Today visit the extraordinary life-sized terra-cotta legion of warriors, buried with the first emperor for over 2200 years. At the Terra Cotta Museum, enjoy the Circle Vision Movie and see the Bronze Chariot. Lunch is at Defachang Restaurant renowned for its delicious dumplings. After lunch, visit Shaanxi Provincial Historical Museum which includes our exclusive visit to the museum’s private artifact room, where you may white-glove handle national treasures from the collection. Buffet dinner tonight at the hotel.

DAY 8 ? Saturday ? Xi’an/Chongqing

The morning visit to the Wild Goose Pagoda. Transfer to the airport for your flight to Chongqing. On arrival, tour the Stilwell Museum’s World War ll and memorabilia of the Flying Tigers, who volunteered to aid the Chinese before Pearl Harbor. See pandas at the Chongqing Zoo if time permits before buffet dinner at the hotel.

DAY 9 ? Sunday ? Chongqing/Dazu/Chongqing

Today, travel by motorcoach to Dazu, famed for its Buddhist archeological sites. Lunch in Dazu at the Dazu Hotel, then sightsee the renowned monumental Buddhist sculptures at Baodingshan. Return to Chongqing and after dinner, board Victoria Cruises’ Victoria Katarina to begin your downstream cruise in your outside cabin with private balcony.

DAY 10 ? Monday ? Yangtze Cruise Fengdu*

At Fengdu, a shore excursion shows the new resettlement town on the Yangtze’s south bank, a farmer’s home and a local market.

DAY 11 ? Tuesday ? Yangtze Cruise Qutang Gorge/Small Gorges Excursion/Xiling Gorge

Unforgettable scenery unfolds as you cruise through the first of the fabled Three Gorges: Qutang Gorge hemmed by towering cliffs. At Wushan, transfer to a cruiser for an excursion up the Daning River to view its splendid Small Gorges. Continue by sampan to the picturesque mini-gorges of the Ma Du River. Alter-natively, your excursion may be on Shennong Stream with its impressive small gorges. Sail on from Wushan and pass through Wu Gorge, known for its lofty Twelve Peaks. Next, cruise through Xiling Gorge, the last and most scenic of all the gorges. Finally, sail through the dramatic Three Gorges ship lock.

DAY 12 ? Wednesday ? Yangtze Cruise Xiling Gorge/San Dou Ping/Yichang to Shanghai*

At San Dou Ping, visit the Three Gorges Dam, the world’s largest hydroelectric project. Board the ship and continue downstream to Yichang, then board a flight to Shanghai. Buffet dinner at your hotel.

DAY 13 ? Thursday ? Shanghai

A full day tour shows the Shanghai Museum, including an audio tour highlighting the special features of the museum’s permanent collection, Nanjing Road or Huai Hai Road shopping streets, the Jade Buddha Temple. Then on to visit the European-styled Bund and Children’s Palace, followed by a stop at a carpet factory. After dinner, the renowned Shanghai acrobats show is sure to amaze.

DAY 14 ? Friday ? Shanghai/Hangzhou*

The morning is free in Shanghai for last minute sightseeing or shopping. After lunch, travel by motorcoach to scenic Hangzhou. Buffet dinner at the Shangri-La.

Today’s sightseeing takes you to the lovely Inner West Lake with sculling boat ride; then visit scenic Hua Gang Park, Huqingyu Pharmacy, the remarkable 4th century Ling Yin Monastery and the Tea Production Brigade.

DAY 16 ? Sunday ? Hangzhou/Guilin

The morning is free to explore on your own. After lunch fly to Guilin and enjoy a leisurely Chinese dinner at the hotel this evening.

DAY 17 ? Monday ? Guilin

Today, enjoy a relaxing cruise on a deluxe air-conditioned boat along the Li River, passing through scenery reminiscent of Chinese ink paintings. See the haunting beauty of Guilin’s mist-wrapped monolithic peaks surrounding the river while you enjoy lunch on board. Disembark at the village of Yangshuo, with time to browse the local market. Upon return to Guilin, a buffet dinner is at the Sheraton.

DAY 18 ? Tuesday ? Guilin/Hong Kong

This morning, out to see dramatic rock formations at Fu Bo Hill and Reed Flute Cave, followed by a lunch of dim sum specialties at the Sheraton. Then fly to Hong Kong.

DAY 19 ? Wednesday ? Hong Kong

Today, your tour of Hong Kong Island passes through Stanley Market and Repulse Bay. Take a sampan ride to see Aberdeen’s floating community. Then up to Victoria Peak for spectacular views of the city and its harbor.
