DAY 1 ? Sunday ? Depart San Francisco for Beijing, China

Fly transpacific aboard United Airlines.

DAY 2 ? Monday ? Arrive Beijing

Upon arrival, you are met and escorted to the hotel.

DAY 3 ? Tuesday ? Beijing

Tour Tiananmen Square, then on to the Imperial Palace’s For-bid-den City, including admission to living quarters and jewelry sections. Then tour the exquisite Summer Palace with a boat ride on Lake Kunming (weather permitting). Enjoy a Beijing Duck dinner party this evening.

DAY 4 ? Wednesday ? Beijing

Behold the astonishing Great Wall today. After lunch, visit a cloisonné factory. Then walk along the Sacred Way to the Ming Tombs and Chang Ling Exhi-bition Hall. After dinner, attend an exciting show, “The Legend of Kung Fu.”

DAY 5 ? Thursday ? Beijing

The day is free to explore. Perhaps join our optional Hutong tour: visit the Drum Tower and enjoy the views of the city below; then a pedicab ride takes you through the Hutong district’s ancient narrow streets, plus a visit with a local family. DAY 6 ? Friday ? Beijing/Shanghai

Today, fly to cosmopolitan Shanghai, China’s center of commerce. The rest of the afternoon is free to explore at your leisure. After dinner this evening, you’ll attend an acrobatic show.

DAY 7 ? Saturday ? Shanghai

Full day tour begins with the national treasures in the collections at the Shanghai Museum. In the afternoon visit the Jade Buddha Temple, a carpet factory, The Bund, Nanjing or Huai Hai Road, and then stop at the Children’s Palace.

DAY 8 ? Sunday ? Shanghai/Yichang*

Morning is free in Shanghai. Fly to Yichang. Then board a Victoria Cruises’ Victoria Star cruise ship and begin your cruise upstream.

DAY 9 ? Monday ? Yangtze Cruise: San Dou Ping/Xiling Gorge

Stop at San Dou Ping to see the Three Gorges Dam Project. Board the ship and sail through the dramatic Three Gorges ship lock before continuing through Xiling Gorge, longest of the famed Three Gorges.

DAY 10 ? Tuesday ? Yangtze Cruise: Wu Gorge/Small Gorges Excursion/Qutang Gorge

Early this morning, marvel at Wu Gorge’s deep zigzagging valley. At Wushan, take an excursion via cruiser up to see the Daning River’s splendid Small Gorges. Continue by sampan to the picturesque mini-gorges of the Ma Du River with its clear, swift running water, unusual rock formations, and monkeys and goats along the banks. Depending on the water level of the Yangtze River, your excursion may be on Shennong Stream with its equally spectacular small gorges. Depart Wushan, passing through dramatic Qutang Gorge, walled with steep mossy cliffs that crowd the sky.

DAY 11 ? Wednesday ? Yangtze Cruise: Fengdu*

At Fengdu, a shore excursion shows Mingshan Hill’s unique temples, with statues of ghosts and devils.

DAY 12 ? Thursday ? Yangtze Cruise: Chongqing/Xi’an

Disembark in Chongqing. Visit the Stilwell Museum where you will see an intriguing collection of World War II memor-abilia of the famed Flying Tigers. Fly to Xi’an.

DAY 13 ? Friday ? Xi’an

An extraordinary day begins as you tour the life-sized terra-cotta army, no two alike, buried with the emperor for over 2200 years; Circle Vision Movie; Bronze Chariot, and the collections at the renowned Shaanxi Provincial Historical Museum. Tonight, enjoy a fabulous Tang Dynasty dinner and show.

DAY 14 ? Saturday ? Xi’an/Guilin

Fly on to Guilin, heart of a magnificent landscape. Highlights are the Reed Flute Cave and Fu Bo Hill’s dramatic rock formations.

DAY 15 ? Sunday ? Guilin

A cruise along the Li River reveals the haunting beauty of Guilin’s mist-wrapped peaks surrounding the river en route to Yangshuo, while you have lunch on board. When you reach Yangshuo you will have time to sightsee and then board the bus for your return to Guilin.
