You are off to tour Tiananmen Square and the Imperial Palace in the Forbidden City, including the jewelry section. Then tour the exquisite Summer Palace with its ornate architecture and enjoy a boat ride on Lake Kunming (weather permitting). Tonight, you are invited to a delicious Beijing Duck dinner party at the Renaissance.

DAY 4 ? Monday ? Beijing

Today, a highlight of your trip to China as you walk on the ancient ramparts of the astonishing Great Wall. Then visit a cloisonné factory and see skilled artisans at work. Later, stroll along the Sacred Way, guarded by statues, to the Ming Tombs and Chang Ling Exhibition Hall.

DAY 5 ? Tuesday ? Beijing/Xi’an

Morning at leisure to explore on your own. Perhaps you can visit the Ladies Market a five-minute walk from the hotel, one of the largest flower market in Beijing. Fly to historic Xian, archeological treasure trove and former capital of China.

DAY 6 ? Wednesday ? Xi’an

Today’s sightseeing includes a visit to the life-sized terra-cotta legion of warriors, no two alike, the Circle Vision Movie, Bronze Chariot and the collections at the Shaanxi Provincial Historical Museum.

DAY 7 ? Thursday ? Xi’an/Chongqing

After your free morning, fly to Chongqing. Visit the Stilwell Museum and view World War II memorabilia before boarding a Victoria Cruises’ Victoria Star to begin your memorable cruise on the Yangtze River.

DAY 8 ? Friday ? Yangtze Cruise: Fengdu*

At Fengdu, a shore excursion shows Mingshan Hill’s unique temples, with statues of ghosts and devils.

DAY 9 ? Saturday ? Yangtze Cruise: Qutang Gorge/Wu Gorge/Small Gorges Excursion/Xiling Gorge

Cruise through the first of the fabled Three Gorges: Qutang Gorge hemmed by towering cliffs and sail on through Wu Gorge, known for its lofty Twelve Peaks. At Wushan, cruise up the Daning River via cruiser to view the famous Small Gorges. Continue by sampan to the picturesque mini-gorges of the Ma Du River with its clear, swift running water, unusual rock formations, and monkeys and goats along the banks. Alternatively, your excursion may be on Shennong Stream with its dramatic gorges. Pass through the last and most scenic of the major gorges, Xiling Gorge and then through the Three Gorges ship lock.

DAY 10 ? Sunday ? Yangtze Cruise: Xiling Gorge/San Dou Ping/Yichang to Shanghai*

At San Dou Ping, see the amazing Three Gorges Dam, the world’s largest hydro-electric project. Continue on to Yichang where you board your flight to Shanghai, China’s center of commerce.

DAY 11 ? Monday ? Shanghai

Start your memorable tour of Shanghai by seeing the treasured collections at the Shanghai Museum, the lovely Yu Garden, the famous Shanghai carpet factory, The Bund, the traditional shops of Nanjing Road or the modern shops of Huai Hai Road followed by a perform-ance at the Children’s Palace. This evening, enjoy an astonishing acrobatic show.

DAY 12 ? Tuesday ? Shanghai/Hangzhou*

Morning at leisure in Shanghai. Then motorcoach to scenic Hangzhou.

Take a boat ride on lovely Inner West Lake, visit Hua Gang Park and Huqingyu Pharmacy. Then tour remarkable 4th century Ling Yin Monastery, and on to visit the Tea Production Brigade.

DAY 14 ? Thursday ? Hangzhou/Guilin

The morning is at leisure. Fly to Guilin. Sightseeing includes Reed Flute Cave and Fu Bo Hill’s dramatic rock formations.

DAY 15 ? Friday ? Guilin

Today’s cruise along the Li River, with lunch served aboard ship, reveals the haunting beauty of Guilin’s misty peaks surrounding the river en route to Yangshuo. Chinese dinner at the Bravo Hotel.

DAY 16 ? Saturday ? Guilin/Guangzhou/Hong Kong

A change of pace today as you fly to Guangzhou. Enjoy a tour of Chen Clan Temple and Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall followed by a dim sum lunch. Transfer by train to Hong Kong.
