Upon arrival, you are met and transferred to the hotel.

DAY 3 ? Saturday/Sunday ? Shanghai

Visit the Shanghai Museum with its remarkable dynastic cultural artifacts exhibits, the lovely Yu Garden, the fabled European-styled Bund, traditional emporiums on Nanjing or modern shops on Huai Hai Road, the famous Shanghai carpet factory, and then stop at the Children’s Palace.

DAY 4 ? Sunday/Monday ? Shanghai/Yichang*

Morning at leisure in Shanghai. Later fly to Yichang where you board the Victoria Star or Victoria Empress cruise ship to begin your up-stream cruise.

*If direct flight is not available, fly to Wuhan and travel by motorcoach on to Yichang.

DAY 5 ? Monday/Tuesday ? Yangtze Cruise: San Dou Ping/Xiling Gorge

Stop at San Dou Ping to see the amazing progress construction at the Three Gorges Dam, the largest hydroelectric project in the world. Sail through the dramatic Three Gorges ship lock before continuing through Xiling Gorge, longest of the famed Three Gorges.

DAY 6 ? Tuesday/Wednesday ? Yangtze Cruise: Wu Gorge/Small Gorges Excursion/Qutang Gorge

This morning, marvel at Wu Gorge’s deep zigzagging valley. At Wushan, a cruiser takes you for an excursion up the Daning River’s renowned Small Gorges–Dragon Gate, Misty or Emerald. Continue by sampan to the picturesque mini-gorges of the Ma Du River with its clear, swift running water, unusual rock formations, and monkeys and goats along the banks. Depending on the water level of the Yangtze River, your excursion may be on Shennong Stream with its equally spectacular small gorges. Depart Wushan, passing through dramatic Qutang Gorge, with steep mossy cliffs that crowd the sky.

DAY 7 ? Wednesday/Thursday ? Yangtze Cruise: Fengdu*

At Fengdu, a shore excursion shows Mingshan Hill’s unique temples, with statues of ghosts and devils.

DAY 8 ? Thursday/Friday ? Yangtze Cruise: Chongqing/Xi’an

Disembark in Chongqing. Visit the Stilwell Museum where you will see an intriguing collection of World War II memor-abilia of the famed Flying Tigers. Fly to historic Xi’an.

DAY 9 ? Friday/Saturday ? Xi’an

A memorable day of sightseeing begins as you view remnants of China’s ancient past: the life-sized terra-cotta army, the Bronze Chariot, Circle Vision Movie and Shaanxi Provincial Historical Museum.

DAY 10 ? Saturday/Sunday ? Xi’an/Beijing

Fly to China’s capital, Beijing.

Today’s sightseeing includes vast Tiananmen Square, and impressive Ming extravagance at the Forbidden City’s Imperial Palace including a tour of the living quarters, museum and jewelry sections. Continue on to visit the exquisite Summer Palace, with a boat ride on Lake Kunming (weather permitting).

DAY 12 ? Monday/Tuesday ? Beijing

Today tour the Great Wall, one of the most amazing feats of mankind. Walk along the ancient ramparts, admiring views of the Wall winding across the mountains. Visit a cloisonné factory to watch the skilled artisans create their intricate designs. Stroll along the Sacred Way, lined with statues of warriors and mythical beasts, to the Ming Tombs and Chang Ling Exhibition Hall. Tonight, celebrate your memorable vacation at a Beijing Duck dinner party at the Capital Hotel.
