CHINA Day 2 • Arrive Beijing Upon arrival in Beijing , China's capital, you are escorted to your hotel. Grand Hyatt Beijing at Oriental Plaza Day 3 • Beijing After breakfast and a welcome orientation, sightseeing includes Tiananmen Square and the Imperial Palace in the Forbidden City, including the living quarters, museum and jewelry sections. After lunch, a fun-filled pedicab ride takes you through the Hutong district's ancient narrow streets to enjoy a close-up look at the heritage of this exciting city and visit with one of the local families, includes a stop at the Drum Tower (Gu Lou). Tonight, your welcome dinner party at the hotel features cocktails before a Peking Duck dinner. Then in the afternoon, your visit to the Shanghai Museum, includes a handheld recorder highlighting the special features of the museum's permanent collection. Continue on to a carpet factory and the Children's Palace. Tonight, dinner is at a local restaurant before you attend an astonishing performance of the renowned Shanghai acrobats, where your reserved seats are in the front section. MEALS: American Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Day 7 • Shanghai/ Zhujiajiao /Shanghai* This morning drive to Zhujiajiao, the best preserved of the four water towns in Shanghai, and known as Shanghai's Venice. Take a walking tour of the town and a sampan ride shows the numerous bridges built during the Ming and Qing dynasties. Return to Shanghai for a visit to the Yu garden, then dinner at the hotel. MEALS: American Breakfast, Lunch, Buffet Dinner Day 8 • Shanghai/Yichang* Morning at leisure in Shanghai. This afternoon, fly to Yichang. After dinner, board your cruise ship and begin a memorable cruise upstream in Junior accommodations with balcony. Day 9 • Yangtze River Cruise: San Dou Ping/Xiling Gorge This morning, stop at San Dou Ping to see the historic Three Gorges Dam project. Board the ship and sail through the dramatic Three Gorges ship lock before continuing through Xiling Gorge, longest of the famed Three Gorges. Enjoy nightly a-la-carte dining and great views from the ship's lovely top deck restaurant. MEALS: American Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Day 10 • Yangtze River Cruise: Wu Gorge/Daning River Small Gorges or Shennong Stream/Qutang Gorge Early this morning, marvel at Wu Gorge's deep zigzagging valley. At Wushan, take a cruiser excursion up the Daning River to see its famous Small Gorges¡ªDragon Gate, Misty or Emerald. Continue by sampan to the picturesque mini-gorges of the Ma Du River with its clear, swift running water, unusual rock formations, and monkeys and goats along the banks. Depending on the water level of the Yangtze River , your excursion may be on Shennong Stream with its equally spectacular small gorges. Depart Wushan, passing through impressive Qutang Gorge, walled with mossy cliffs that crowd the sky. MEALS: American Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Day 11 • Yangtze River Cruise: Shibaozhai* A shore excursion at Shibaozhai shows its scenic 12-story wooden pagoda. Over 400 years old, this magnificent pagoda is known as the ¡°Pearl of the Yangtze.¡± MEALS: American Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner *Alternate shore excursion may visit Fengdu or Wanzhou. Day 12 • Yangtze River Cruise: Chongqing/Xi'an Disembark in Chongqing. Visit the Stilwell Museum to see its collection of World War ll artifacts including memorabilia of the Flying Tigers, a group of American veteran pilots who volunteered to aid the Chinese in World War ll prior to the attack on Pearl Harbor . Later, fly to historic Xi'an where you will enjoy a buffet dinner at the hotel. Later, visit the Shaanxi Provincial Historical Museum with our exclusive visit to the private artifact room where you may handle some of the national treasures from the museum's collection.
